Run Against Violence
We were so excited to participate in this year’s Run Against Violence Challenge again this year…
The Run Against Violence (RAV) Challenge is a virtual run/walk that runs each year from the last Sunday in August and goes for 19days and we joined the Newcastle Anglican Diocese's Team to help spread the word throughout our wider community that Domestic and Family Violence is not ok.
• In 2017 it was started by one woman who ran the 1300 kms from Broken Hill to Sydney to give a voice to those impacted by family and domestic violence. Since then, RAV has brought together thousands of people to do the same to raise awareness and funds to help create safer communities across Australia.
• Its mission and aim is to spark conversation and fund primary prevention programs that promote respectful relationships, and RAV ensures that 100% of donations raised go to services working to prevent DFV such as NAPCAN.
• NAPCAN’s Love Bites Program that operates across our nation trains facilitators to go into schools to educate children about what healthy relationships look like as a means of preventing child abuse and neglect.
• Over the past few years RAV has successfully raised over $500,000 of fundraising for the Love Bites Program.
• Other achievements include:
- 16,000 people from over 316 local government communities in Australia and globally have participated in this virtual chase between Broken Hill and Sydney.
- 1.7 million kms have been tracked
- 1068 facilitators have been trained
- To date $565,000 of trackable donations have been invested into our communities with 60% of the support programs run reaching young Australians in regional, rural and remote areas.
